Texas cracks down on late benefits

If you are an insurer in Texas, take note. The Texas Workers Compensation Commission is cracking down on late benefit payments to injured employees. In a new enforcement push, TWCC is using electronic data to track payments, and in addition to getting tough on late payments, it’s also imposing penalties for faulty or inaccurate reporting data.

The commission states in a news release that it recently issued 58 notices of violation to insurance carriers totaling $167,000 in penalties for the late initial payments of TIBs [total injury benefits]. The commission also recently issued 35 notices of violation to insurance carriers totaling $5,626 in penalties for inaccurate reporting of electronic data.
